A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Canon.

The story goes … I gave my Son my i9950 a couple of months ago to print out a lot of work he wanted to do. It had a CISS unit on it and had being working great for 2 years. He got about ½ ways through the work and decided to have a break. About 6 weeks went by without printing a sheet; he then went back to printing the rest of his work out, when each colour packed up in turn (everything blank). Done the usual cleaning things, nozzle checks, repeatedly and CISS cartridges in and out etc. with no success (covered himself in a whole lot of ink) now he’s in a bit of a pickle. He taught he had done something wrong to damage the printhead. He didn’t have a clue and at this point he blamed the CISS for the faults. So he got a new printhead and canon cartridges (all 8). No joy there with that idea. Then he decides to contact Canon UK and was told to send it on to their service dept. Arriving in their service dept. they quickly discovered the printer was covered in waste ink, (a complete professional paint job) everything inside black. The service guys refused to do anything with it, and after a quick phone call to my Son they both agreed it was best to dump it. NOW he rings me with the bad news after it cost HIM about 200 pounds. It gave me a good laugh to hear the whole story. Then when I told him it was only the purge system that was clogged and would have been eeeasily fixed, he laugh at what a gobshite he’d been. The old i9950 had printed over 50,000 sheets so didn’t owe me anything. It will be sadly missed for its speed and reliability but now, it’s in the place where all good printers go (The Bin). Be advised and don’t do what my Son done and send your printer off to Canon with a tray full of waste ink, “Fix it yourself”. The Son now feels he has to make it up to his old man because it was my best printer. Gee now he’s given me ideas on an Epson 3800.

That would really upset me if that happened to me.

From now on, when I want to "sell" a printer to a friend, I'm going to tell them I'm "leasing" it to them and that if they have any problem to call me and if they no longer want it for any reason, they have to give it back to me.

Canon MX700, MP760, MP780, iP4000, iP4000R, iP6000D, i9100, i860 printers.
I used to vacuum fill Canon cartridges with Inktec ink but I have converted to the German method. It's so much quicker, easier and cleaner.

All this to come... and it sounds awfully familiar...

Tri-rail model railway set... given to me by my father, at age 14... a month later I'd sold it... for £5... Still look back on it as a lesson in the value of things whenever I think of what it would fetch now... These lessons aren't cheap but worth learning. smile

My father refuses to discuss it... sad

You’re a dad yourself now, so let’s see how the next 20 years or so go.
Anyway is much easier being the son than the dad, but nowhere as pleasurable. O those wasted years..  wink
