How funny! In the 5 years since I started this thread I've gone through a few different printers and eventually ended up back with my trusty ol' i560.
Well, I thought I'd try an extended nozzle check pattern but couldn't find the service manual on my PC.
So, I did a Google search for "i560 extended nozzle" hoping to find either the manual or instructions and guess what... this thread was my first result HAHAHA. I went back to fixyourprinter and downloaded the manual and ran the extended nozzle check pattern (called the "Service test print") and did an EEPROM information print while I was in there.
Gosh I love this stuff!

I tried this on my Pixma ip4200 to get the extended nozzle check pattern, worked fine.

Hi guys,
Re: How to read the Extended Nozzle Check Pattern
Have you seen one of my earlier posts from 12/28/2010 2:13:54 pm
Subject: " ip4300: What to check in Ext Nozzle Print & How to read EEPROM Report"
http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=39496#p39496
This post showed images of pages from the service manual that gave a sample extended nozzle printout along with explanations of the codes.

Again for own selfish reference: i560 process for extended nozzle check pattern:
1. Hold down Resume
2. Hold down Power (Resume still held)
3. While holding Power, release Resume and push Resume twice
4. Release both buttons
5. Green light will flash
6. Press Resume once to select “service test print” (green will turn orange)
7. Press power button to execute
Once the process is complete, pressing power (while light is green) will turn off the printer
(Googling "canon i560 extended nozzle check pattern" brings me right to this page... it's wonderfully easy and I never loose the info!)

If you give us some more details on your problem like which error code or some other information,
Have you refilled the cartridge or put in a new one, is it a Canon cartridge or some other brand.
The more we know the better we can help you..

This might also work with your printer: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7416 .Use at your own risk.
But resetting a counter to get your printer working again will not remove the ink in the absorbers. You risk an ink spill if you reset without changing or cleaning the absorbers.
