I will answer your question with the description of your printer OEM inks.

As you can see the such called "UV protected" thing is never mentioned by Epson, you do the math. The UV protected statement remind me of another ebay seller that use to say his dye inks were better than pigmented inks against fading, which we all know that it's misleading. I won't tell you that your current inks are low quality, but I can tell you that if a seller claims to sell something I think he should posted on the item description and not just tell you that on an email (Image Specialist inks issue). I have learned over the years that when something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Remember that no matter what inks you decided to use if they are not OEM inks you need to profile your inks to get the best results, this will save you time, money and frustrations like the ones you are having right now with the results you are seen on your prints.

It all depends on how many types of paper you are going to use. I think that $40 dollars for each paper is abusive but it also depends on what type of profile they are offering you. It's a shame that you are not using Image Specialists inks because I have some custom profiles for the inks and I will be more than happy to let you have it. I don't know of what profile machine you are talking about but the one I'm using didn't cost me $160, you can get something descent for $599 (Spyder3Studio SR) or the ColorMunki Photo for $ 499, only that the last one offers profile chart of 50 patches vs 729 patches of the Spyder3Studio SR, a larger target of patches may produce a more accurate profile. Its sounds like  a lot of money but believe me it can get more expensive ($1,000+). I can tell you based on my experience that since I started using custom profile I can say refilling is problem free, even I use it with my pro 4800 with OEM inks when I'm not using Epson papers with great results. It all comes down to two things, how much money you want to spend and how much you love you prints.

By measuring device you mean Spectrocolorimeter? or do you mean the test charts?

and I plan on buying the Image Specialist inks as soon as Precision Colors opens on Ebay. You said you have profiles for there inks, If so for what paper types?

I just ordered the CM-Xrite and Im hoping I didnt make the wrong choice. Also this is my first calibrator, when I see you guys talking about charts is it something that comes with the unit or do I need to buy one of those too? I see CM sells them separately.
